Bohemian Foundation Awards $550K to Local Organizations

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, December 12, 2017 – Bohemian Foundation today announced that it awarded $550,000 to 36 local organizations working to encourage and enable youth to thrive, empower individuals and families on the path toward economic stability, and strengthen our vibrant community. Bohemian Foundation awards Pharos Fund grants twice every year. Since its inception in 2001, Bohemian Foundation has awarded $17,760,000 in Pharos Fund grants to a variety of organizations serving the Fort Collins area.

“We’re so pleased to support these organizations that are working to strengthen our community,” said Sara Maranowicz, Bohemian Foundation’s Community Programs director. “These applicants are addressing important issues and using their expertise to meet community needs.”

Pharos Fund is a responsive grantmaking program of Bohemian Foundation that makes awards up to $30,000 to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and governmental units. A committee comprised of Bohemian Foundation board members and community reviewers selects grantees through a competitive application process.

Students and Nonprofits Gather for Annual Give Next Kickoff Day

More than 400 Larimer County middle and high school students and 36 local nonprofits will gather to kick off their participation in Give Next, a year-long program designed to teach students about giving and the important roles nonprofits play in our community. The event will include various speakers, a nonprofit fair and workshops led by nonprofit staff.

Give Next is a school-based youth philanthropy program designed to provide middle and high school students with hands-on experience in philanthropic giving. Through the program, local businesses, foundations and individuals become classroom donors by providing each participating school with $5,000 to award to Larimer County nonprofits. With the financial support of these donors, students design and manage their own grantmaking programs. Students work together to identify community needs, choose a focus area, create their own mission statement, research nonprofits, volunteer, conduct site visits, review grant applications and make funding decisions. $3 Million Matching Grant Allows Coloradans to Double Hurricane Recovery Donations

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, Sept. 12, 2017 – Coloradans who want to support hurricane recovery efforts now have an opportunity to double the impact of their giving.

Bohemian Foundation will match – dollar-for-dollar up to $3 million – gifts made by Colorado individuals, businesses and foundations to Colorado’s Hurricane Recovery Fund. This fund, established by the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, will help nonprofit organizations address intermediate and long-term hurricane recovery needs across U.S. states and territories.

Donations made to the fund by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2017 are eligible for the match. The Community Foundation will not charge an administrative fee to this fund. “The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado and Bohemian Foundation teamed up to support recovery efforts for Hurricane Katrina and the Northern Colorado fires of 2012 and floods of 2013. We learned that there are two distinct areas to address: first response and long-term needs,” said Ray Caraway, Community Foundation president. “This fund will support intermediate and long-term needs. To distribute Coloradans’ generous support, we will work with trusted partners to fund reputable nonprofits who best know the needs in their communities.”

Following Hurricane Harvey, Bohemian Foundation established a $2 million matching grant that challenged northern Colorado residents to donate to the Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund. With the growing impact of the 2017 hurricane season, Bohemian Foundation has expanded the match from $2 million to $3 million and has opened the campaign to all Colorado residents and organizations, including foundations.

Bohemian Foundation Announces Muse Grant Workshops Ahead Application Opening

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, Aug. 18, 2017 – Bohemian Foundation today announced two upcoming workshops in Larimer and Weld Counties regarding Muse, a new responsive, competitive grant program offered by Bohemian Foundation’s Music Programs. The first workshop will take place on Aug. 22 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Music District, 639 S. College Ave., Fort Collins. The second workshop will take place on Aug. 29 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Zoe’s Cafe and Events, 715 10th St., Greeley.

The workshops will provide a general orientation to Muse, including eligibility, Music Programs goal fit and answers to frequently asked questions. They will also provide a brief overview of the application along with instructions for utilizing the Foundation’s grantmaking software. There will be opportunities to ask questions during the presentation and staff will also be available afterwards for one-on-one questions. Both workshops will cover the same content. Muse supports music-related organizations and activities in Larimer and Weld Counties. The grant program will provide support to organizations that have music as their primary focus, or that have a music-centered program. Bohemian Foundation Announces New Music Grant Program

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, Aug. 4, 2017 – Bohemian Foundation today announced the launch of Muse, a new responsive, competitive grant program offered by Bohemian Foundation’s Music Programs. Muse supports music-related organizations and activities in Larimer and Weld Counties.

“Music fosters and enhances connections between people, and we look forward to supporting those connections through Muse,” said Bohemian Foundation’s Music Programs Director Tom Scharf. “There are many wonderful organizations that build community through music in Northern Colorado. Muse encourages the important work they already do, and inspires new opportunities for innovative programs centered on music.”

The grant program will provide support to organizations that have music as their primary focus, or that have a music-centered program. Through Muse, Bohemian Foundation will make awards up to $20,000 to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations serving Larimer and Weld Counties. Applications will be accepted twice per year. Funding requests must align with at least one of Bohemian Foundation’s Music Programs goals: to provide youth with encouragement and opportunities to express themselves through music; to help musicians and music-related businesses grow and develop; and to increase performances of live contemporary music.

Bohemian Foundation Seeks Pharos Fund Grant Applicants for Fall 2017 Grant Round

Bohemian Foundation today announced that Pharos Fund is now accepting applications for the Fall 2017 grant round. Pharos Fund is a responsive grant making initiative of Bohemian Foundation’s Community Programs. Bohemian Foundation is a private family foundation based in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Who:

Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization or a governmental unit serving a charitable purpose. Private foundations, type III non-functionally-integrated supporting organizations, and programs and projects under fiscal sponsorship are ineligible to apply to Pharos Fund.

Applicants do not need to be headquartered in Fort Collins to receive funding. However, applicants must serve clients within the Poudre School District boundary or have a direct impact on individuals in the grantmaking area.

Bohemian Foundation will accept applications until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Students Award More Than $70,000 to Local Nonprofits

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, June 16, 2017 – More than 200 Larimer County middle and high school students participating in the Give Next program capped off their school year by awarding more than $70,000 to 23 Larimer County nonprofits.

With financial support from local businesses, foundations and individuals, classes from the Poudre and Thompson School Districts awarded grants to recipients including FoCo Café; Homeless Gear; and Launch: Community Through Skateboarding. Give Next is a partnership of community volunteers and organizations that include Bohemian Foundation, the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, Poudre School District, Thompson School District and the Give Next Advisory Committee.

“Give Next fosters the next generation of community leaders, who learn about local issues and the nonprofits working to address them,” said Sara Maranowicz, Bohemian Foundation’s Community Programs Director. “The list of this year’s grant recipients illustrates the wide range of issues that students in our community care about, from food insecurity to homelessness; wildlife preservation to the arts.”

At the end of the school year, students award grants to selected nonprofits. Through the process, Give Next enables students to experience the power of teamwork, the impact they can have on their community and the rewards of giving time, talent and treasure.

Currently, 13 middle and high schools in Poudre and Thompson School Districts participate in Give Next. Since the program’s inception in 2012, $226,000 has been awarded to a variety of nonprofits serving Larimer County. Every donor dollar goes directly to student grantmaking. Last Day to Participate in Fort Collins Artspace Survey is June 19

FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 13, 2017—Individuals, organizations and businesses in the arts, cultural and creative communities have one week remaining to take an online survey that will help determine the need for affordable housing and work space in the Fort Collins area. Artspace, a national nonprofit, is conducting the survey which is accessible at www.focoartspace.org and closes June 19.

Survey results will provide information about how much housing and workspace the local arts community can use. The City of Fort Collins, Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority, and Bohemian Foundation invited Artspace to Fort Collins to explore the potential of developing affordable spaces where artists and creatives of all disciplines can live and work, and cultural organizations and creative businesses can thrive.
